Oops!
Well, the best laid plans of mice and cooks...I ended up with a massive toothache, and the chicken just got forgotten. I went ahead and cooked it today, but I didn't trust it, so we tossed it.
On the bright side, my brother made some of his absolutely killer fried rice. I don't know how he does it, and he won't give specific answers. And he doesn't use what I've been taught are must have ingredients, most notably oyster sauce. And he makes the best fried rice I've ever eaten.
So, my sore mouth had fried rice and soy ice cream for dinner. And a piece of stone ground whole wheat hazelnut bread with butter. I've got to get more water pumped into me with these antibiotics, but right now I'm just going back to bed.
Later, granola and vanilla Silk. Silk soy milk, now that's a whole 'nother topic. Just buy it, use it, drink it, cook with it. This stuff rocks. I've been drinking it and cooking with it for like eight years now, and I've forgotten what cow milk tastes like. And I don't care! I drink Silk out of the carton in the middle of the night for a treat.
And Winco's low-fat strawberry-raspberry granola. It just doesn't get much better. Well, butternut squash ravioli with browned sage butter, but that's not for everyday. There's lots of things that are great, but not built to be everyday food. Good granola is EVERY day food, and twice on Sunday. If I can keep track of what day it is.
I think my next project is going to have to be spaghetti sauce. But we'll give it a few days. It's easy, just finely dice zucchini, onion, celery, garlic, bell pepper, mushrooms, and whatever else blows your skirt up. Saute that in some olive oil, then add canned spaghetti sauce (something WITHOUT high fructose corn syrup), or, no salt, crushed, canned tomatoes, and some water. Let it simmer or just throw it all in a crock pot all day. Actually, once it's cooked, you can even put the pasta right in it and cook it in the crock pot. About as easy as it gets. And yummy. You can add some fake meat if you must.
