Counting the pennies

How many of us are watching every cent that we spend in these harsh economic times. I know I am. This is why I have decided to take Cooking Monkey slightly off track for a while.

I would like to present to you, my readers a way of saving money when it comes to the kitchen, whilst still maintaining a healthy and exciting eating lifestyle.

So today I have made a list of the essential items every household should have in their pantry. Having these core ingreedients in your pantry all of the time will ensure that you do not buy unnecessary items at the supermarket.

Previously I would have an idea in mind for what to cook for dinner, I would go to the supermaket and buy all of the items needed to make the dish without knowing what was already in my pantry at home. Often you will find yourself buying doubles of what you already have and that is money that could have been saved or spent elsewhere. So my suggestion would be to keep a list in your purse of the items you have in your pantry so you do not double up.

Okay so here is my list and feel free to add to it if you think there is something i have left out.

* Brown Rice
