Counting the Pennies Part 2
This is a continuation from my blog the other day about saving money in the kitchen. Today I would like to share with you a recipe that can be used for 2 dishes in particular and the best thing about this recipe is that it is using some of the key items that you will have already in your pantry.
Spaghetti Bolognese and Lasagne.
First we will start with the Bolognese sauce.
Ingreedients
500 grams of lean beef mince
1 large finely chopped onion
2 cloves of finely chopped garlic
1 can diced tomotoes
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 medium carrots sliced julianne style
2 large zuchinni sliced into small pieces
1 bottle of dolmio 785g bottle of tomato and basil sauce
Method.
1. Place medium cooking pot on stove on a medium heat, add olive oil
2. Once heated add garlic and onions into pot, stir until lightly browned, be careful not to burn the garlic
3. Once browned add in mince, use wooden spoon to break the mince up in the pot. Stir regularly until mince is brown all over
4. Add diced tomatoes into pot and stir through
5. Add Dolmio sauce into pot and stir through.
6. Place lid on pot and let simmer on low heat for around 90 mins. Make sure to regularly.
Once the sauce is done you can either cook some spaghetti up and serve with some grated parmasen, or you can turn it into a lasagne.
Lasagne Recipe
Ingreedients
Bolognese sauce (above)
Shredded mozarella cheese
Lasagne Sheets long and flat
Dolmio lasagne white sauce
* you will need a 300x300 lasagne dish to bake in
Method.
*Preheat oven to 200 degrees celcius
1. Place a layer of bolognese sauce on bottom of dish
2. On top of this layer place lasagne sheets to cover entire base, do not overlap lasagne sheets as it may become crispy in the oven
3. On top of lasagne sheets place a layer of white sauce followed by another layer of bolognese sauce, repeat this once more so you have three layers of bolognese sauce.
4. Ontop of the last layer of lasagne sheets place a layer of only white sauce, followed by a layer of mozarella cheese.
5. Bake in oven for around 45 mins. To check if your lasagne is cooked insert a knife into the middle, if it goes through smoothly the pasta sheet is cooked.
Yummmm. Enjoy
The cost of this recipe was $15 and it catered for 8 people.
